Editorial policy and AI use
We use AI to cover more news, faster. We do not use it to produce numbers or advice.
What the AI does
- Searches allowlisted news and official sources each morning and extracts dated facts with their source.
- Drafts the explanation, the scenarios and the signposts around those facts.
- Chooses which historical statistics are relevant, by reference; our code fills in the values.
What the AI never does
- Compute or round a statistic.
- Publish a number that is not on a cited page or in our computed data.
- Recommend buying, selling or holding anything, or set price targets.
- Assign probabilities to scenarios.
Sources
Tier 1 sources are official: central banks, statistics agencies, regulators, exchanges and company investor-relations pages. Tier 2 sources are established financial media and data providers. A fact from outside the allowlist is dropped automatically. When sources disagree, we use the official figure or say that they disagree. Social media posts are reported only through a Tier 1 or Tier 2 source that confirms them.
Facts, history and scenarios
Each insight separates what happened (cited facts), what history shows (computed statistics), the seasonal backdrop and scenarios. Scenarios are clearly labelled as possibilities with the signs that would point to each, and testable ones are graded publicly on the scorecard, including the ones that did not play out.
