Earnings reactions
Among the companies we track, Meta Platforms has had the largest typical move around its results (8.43% up or down over two sessions) and Exxon Mobil the smallest (2.20%). Past reactions show how far a results day has moved each stock. They say little about the direction of the next one.
A results announcement is the single biggest scheduled event for a stock. We take the dates of every earnings release filed with the SEC (Form 8-K, Item 2.02) and measure the move from the close before the filing day to the close of the next session, which captures both before-the-open and after-the-close releases.
